IMR "safe chemistry" batteries

 
IMR batteries are often referred to as "safe chemistry" batteries as they are a different chemical composition to standard Li-Ion (Lithium Cobalt) batteries, with lower internal resistance, and should be able to deliver a higher current while maintaining their capacity and avoiding thermal build up. IMR strictly speaking applies to Lithium Manganese chemistry but has become a generic term applied to any high discharge batteries.

Here are discharge tests carried out with constant current for brands likely to be of interest to the vaping community (click on the graphs to enlarge):

18350 (12A rated) Here is how it performed at 5A, 10A and 15A discharge. Excellent quality, can be pushed beyond the amp rating.








Basen
18350 (10A rated) Here is how it performed at 1A, 2.5A, 5A and 10A. Poor quality. Only managed to perform up to 5A, and performance already dropping off at that.

18650 3100mAh (30A rated). Here is how it performed at 5A, 20A, 30A, 35A and 40A. Very good quality. Performance is dropping off at 30A, but it can be pushed beyond the amp limit.

18650 HE2 (20A rated) Here is how it performed at 1A, 5A, 10A, 20A and 30A. Very good quality, performs well up to the amp rating.


18650 HE4 (20A rated)
Here is how it performed at 1A, 5A, 10A, 20A, 30A,35A and 40A. Excellent quality. Can be pushed well beyond the amp rating.
18650 HG2 (20A rated)
Here is how it performed at 1A, 5A, 10A, 20A and 30A. Ve ry good quality. Performs well up to the amp rating.

18650 INR18650-30Q (15A rated) Here is how it performed at 5A, 10A, 15A, 20A, 30A, 35A and 40A discharge. Exceptional quality, can be pushed far beyond the amp rating.

18350 (10A rated) Here is how it performed at 1A, 5A, 10A, 15A and 20A discharge. Excellent quality, can be pushed well beyond the amp rating.
18500 (15A rated) Here is how it performed at 1A, 5A, 10A, 15A, 20A, 25A and 30A discharge. Excellent quality, can be pushed well beyond the amp rating.

26650 4200mAh (30A continuous/60A pulse rated) Here is how it performed at 5A, 10A, 20A, 30A,35A and 40A discharge.Very good quality. Performance drops off a bit at 30A, but it can be pushed beyond the amp rating.
